Planetary Pujas  

Planetary pujas (or healing prayers) are performed to obtain Divine support. They often result in profound changes. They are performed to keep you in harmony with the cosmic forces of life, thereby removing and overcoming the difficulties of life and bringing spiritual advancement.

A puja also amplifies the natural healing and spiritual forces that are within you and surround you. These spiritual and planetary forces work to eliminate the negative influences in your life and help surround you with a positive energy which can bring you peace of mind, material prosperity, and enable you to more clearly touch the Divine, your true nature. 

The mind-set with which one requests a puja can often impact the results. For example, if one just wants to make a million bucks or get rid of problem without thinking through one's relationship with it, the chances are that the puja will bring up an issue that was hidden but needs to be dealt with before the desired changes can take place. (About 25% of people fall under this category.)

A puja is more likely to create a desired effect if a problem persists after a good amount of effort has been made and one has run out of ideas on what to do next. In such cases, the person requesting divine support is coming more from an inner place of surrender, i.e. leaving it up to divine to bring in the missing pieces. Every birth is auspicious and each birthday is a special celebration of that. This puja increases the auspicious influences present on one's birthday for the upcoming year.

Durga Puja
For elimination of suffering.

Ganesh
To remove obstacles when beginning a project. Ganesh is also revered as the God of intellect and wisdom.

Kali Puja
In Sanskrit, Kali is referred to as "She who is time." One interpretation of that is that Kali hides the Self. A Kali puja is then performed to decrease that influence (ego) for the spiritual and material prosperity and progress of a person. 

Maha Ganapathy Puja
When starting a new business, for removing obstacles, or when getting married.

Mahalakshmi
For spiritual and material prosperity.

Navagraha Puja
Puja to harmonize the relationship with and the influence of all individual planets. (see below)

Shiva
Shiva, or "The Auspicious One", is the deity that destroys or transforms. As such, a Shiva puja can be used to improve overall health, persisting challenges, and negative tendencies within and without.

To improve harmony in the marriage and to help integrate spiritual and material progress.

Subramanya
To increase leadership skills, for increased courage and vital energy, or to excel in martial arts.

Vishnu
Vishnu is the Supreme Being or Ultimate Reality for Vaishnavas and a manifestation of Brahman in the Advaita or Smarta traditions of Hinduism. This puja is to increase the qualities of inner peace and harmony and the easiness or smoothness of life experienced when peace and harmony are present.
